Get Lost: Tucker finds Ryan
Aug 07, 2006The dogs do SAR because it's fun. The fun comes from the tireless efforts of their handlers and the all-to-rarely-credited Subject. The Subject's job is to motivate the dog by making the search a game ending in a thrilling dog-always-wins tug-of-war with their favorite toy. It's about 90F and humid. Ryan is sitting, hiding, while his scent soaks the vicinity. After a few minutes of soak, Ryan radios Tucker's handler to let him know that Tucker's "problem" is ready. Turker's task is to find Ryan, then return to alert his handler that the subject is found. After the alert, in Tucker's case this means body-banging his handler, Tucker is instructed to "re-find" the subject. It's at the re-find that Tucker finally gets his toy.
